Writing Effective Prompts
Learn how to write clear instructions for your AI Agent’s behavior and interactions
- Your prompt is the foundation of your AI Agent’s personality and capabilities. It defines how the Agent will interact, make decisions, and utilize available tools.
- The main prompt language will always be English, but examples can be language-specific to accommodate different user bases.
- Ensure prompts indicate cultural nuances if applicable.
Core Components
1. Identity and Role
Define who your AI Agent is and its primary purpose. This sets the foundation for all interactions.
Context Consideration:
- Clearly state the AI’s purpose and domain.
- Define whether the AI is task-oriented or conversational.
- Specify the expected level of autonomy in decision-making.
- Specify the AI agent response language. You can specify the language proficiency also if you want.
The response language always be monolingual. We don’t support multilingual AI agents yet that can respond or speak in different languages.
2. Available Resources
Clearly specify the tools and knowledge available to your AI Agent. You don’t need to write exact name of the tools. You can write the name of the tool in a general way.
3. Behavioral Guidelines
Define how your AI Agent should:
- Communicate with users
- Handle different situations
- Make decisions
- Maintain professional standards
Writing Tool Instructions
Proper Tool Reference Format
Always specify tools in general way to ensure clear recognition:
Tool Usage Flow
Provide clear steps for using tools:
Knowledge Base Integration
Clear instructions about knowledge base usage help maintain accuracy and consistency in responses.
Reference Guidelines
Response Structure
Communication Standards
Define clear expectations for responses:
- Length: Keep responses concise (2-3 sentences)
- Tone: Professional yet friendly
- Format: Clear and structured
- Follow-up: End with relevant questions
Conversation Flow
Ending Interactions
Key elements of good responses:
- Clear and concise
- Relevant to the query
- Professional tone
- Appropriate follow-up
- Proper conversation closure

Best Practices
Clear Identification
Use specific names and roles
Tool Usage
Clearly specify when and how to use tools
Knowledge Base
Define when to reference documentation
Response Format
Set clear communication standards
Avoid vague instructions that could lead to inconsistent behavior. Always be specific about:
- Tool usage conditions
- Response requirements
- Decision-making criteria
- Language expectations and multilingual support where applicable.
Additional Considerations
- Regularly review and refine prompts based on AI performance.
- Test AI behavior in different scenarios to ensure consistency in responses.
- Consider potential ethical implications and bias in AI-generated content.
- Update prompts as tools and knowledge bases evolve to maintain accuracy.
- Prepare questionare and evaluate your prompt (Comming Soon in Verbex AI)
For further improvements, iterate on prompts through testing and user feedback to achieve optimal AI interactions.
